Final Post〜안녕히가세 요

Hi Edubloggers,

This probably being my last post of the year, I wanted to debrief a little.

1. What you enjoyed the most this school year

I enjoyed many of the group discussions such as Socratic circle from Scope Magazines. Another thing I enjoyed was learning new words from Wordly Wise. I also enjoyed the Weekly Puzzles focusing on logic.

2. What you would have changed if you could redo this school year

I would increase my effort for my classes. Sometimes, I don’t ask when I need help which results in getting Bs or Cs. Another thing I wish I did was start assignments earlier to ensure I had a full understanding and did it well. Finally, I wish I did more interesting posts as some of mine are a bit boring to read.

3. What you’re looking forward to next school year

I am looking forward to continuing Edublogs and get more viewers. I hope that some basic weekly challenges are still imputed. However, I do wish to see newer, creative activities such as the quote activities, so keep it I can’t wait to meet more people and post during summer.

Anyway, goodbye until we meet again :(.

Bye,

Weekly Post #9: Alcatraz Essay Contest

Hi Edubloggers,

Instead of talking about a different Taiko group, I will talk about my theory if the Anglin brothers survived and are still alive today. The Anglin Brothers, Frank Morris, Clarence Anglin, and John Anglin were the three possible survivors of the 1962 Alcatraz escape.

Scope Alcatraz Essay

The 1962 Alcatraz Escape “Attempt” was one of the most daring escapes in history, being the only successful escape at that time. Alcatraz, prison, also known formally as the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary was established in 1934 housing more than 200 prisoners. Like mentioned in the article, Alcatraz’s security system was very tight and by tight meaning counting the inmates many times a day, making escaping seem like a daydream. However, three brothers, Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin proved the world wrong by developing a plan so cunning, that it took the guards a day to find out they were missing.

The first piece of evidence is a note written by John Anglin sent to the FBI in 2013. According to the Washington Post, John claimed that they all survived the escape, and his brother and Frank Morris died way later. He also said in an interview that he lived in Seattle Brazil, Seattle, North Dakota, and currently resides in Southern California, extremely close to the prison. The final piece of evidence that was found in the news interview was the DNA check comparing the letter with a 1962 letter written by him having matching results. Though it might be a fake, it is the case is still inconclusive.

The next piece of evidence suggesting that the Anglin Brothers made it was the debris found by Angel Island, their intended location. Evidence from the book, Famous Crimes of the 20th Century, said that on June 14, a Coast Guard cutter found a broken paddle 50 yards south of Angel Island. They also found a wallet wrapped in plastic containing the names, relatives, and information of the Anglin Brothers. A week later, they found scraps of the raincoats used as the raft onshore. Despite the Mythbusters attempting and succeeding with the raft experiment, they drifted to San Francisco instead of Angel Island. Questioning if the Anglin Brothers actually made it to Angel Island.

The final, significant piece of evidence that could make a breakthrough was how their family was involved. According to the Anglin family, John’s girlfriend was supposed to drive them to Mexico. The only problem was that how they would have driven to Mexico since Angel Island is 2.5 miles from the mainland. Another piece of evidence that proves that they were included in the plan was that in the article on page 10, they said that they eventually made it to Brazil. We are certain they are not lying because there was a picture sent to the FBI showing the brothers disguised as someone else in Brazil. We also know that this is true because, in the 2013 letter from John, he said that he lived in Brazil, Seattle, North Dakota, and South California.Being involved with a section of the plan, we know that they were at least sightly involved.

Alcatraz, being the most secure prison of its time would seem impossible to escape, in fact some people still think that they didn’t make it with evidence such as “After their escape, the three brothers were never seen again (Scope Magazine: Escape From Alcatraz page 9),” and “A body was spotted floating in San Francisco Bay after the men’s escape attempt (***) (Scope Magazine: Escape From Alcatraz page 9).”However, there is still concrete evidence that they could’ve still made it.

Whew! This assignment was very tedious including ten hours of drafting, editing, and repositioning. However, I have a question for you guys. Do you think they escaped Alcatraz and the cause of the death of Frank Morris and Clarence Anglin was not by drowning or being gobbled by ravenous sharks, but by old age several decades later? Paste your comment in the section down below.

Edublogs Weekly Post #8: Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko

Hi Edubloggers,

Since last January, I have been talking about Taiko and it’s origin and playing styles. Today I will be talking about different Taiko groups in America. If you read the title, you know that the subject is about a group called Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko (ハワイ祭太鼓*疎明太鼓.)

Photo Credit: T a k Flickr via Compfight cc

The first Group (Hawaii Matsuri Taiko,) was established in 1984 by Faye Komagata or known by HMT players as Mrs. K. Hawaii Matsuri Taiko was the first Kumi Daiko (ensemble drumming) group to perform year round in Hawaii. The activity was originally intended as a activity for the Kaala Nippongo Gakuen at Wahiawa Ryusenji Soto Mission, where her husband, was a minester.

The group strived and encouraged the spreading of taiko groups in Hilo, (Taishoji and Puna Taiko) Kona, (Kona Daifukuji Taiko and Hui Okinawa Kudobuto) Maui, (Maui Taiko,) Honolulu, (Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble and Hyaku Sen Ki Kai “PBA Taiko” and Aiea (Somei Taiko and Ryugen Daiko.) Faye Sensei navigated her group to fame after multiple tours to the mainland and Japan encouraging other sense is to offer knowledge to her piers. She sadly handed down controls to her son and step-daughter in 2015 because of pancreatic cancer.

Talking about Faye Sensei’s son, Shuji Komagata, a Aiea minester, police chaplain, and Taiko enthusiast is the current head Sensei of Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko, the Group established in Aiea cofounded with his wife, Jaymie Komagata. Rev. Shuji extends the knowledge, precision, culture, and playfulness of Somei Taiko after learning from masters such as Kenny Endo, Chizuko Endo, Seiichi Tanaka,  Marco Lienhard, PJ Hirabayashi, and Roy Hirabayashi. The group practices every Sunday housing people of interest and skill from Children all the way to seniors. To this day, Somei Taiko is one of the best performance groups you could request.

Weekly Post # 7: 2NE1 Scandal (;-;)

Hi Edubloggers,

Today is the day that marks the year after 2NE1’s disbandment.

If you didn’t know about this group, 2NE1 is a girl K-pop group consisting of four members, Park Bom, Sandra Park (Dara), CL (Lee Chae-Rin), and Minzi (Gong Minji.) The group was supported by YG Entertainment and debuted in 2009 when they paired up with “Big Bang” and sang the song “Lollipop.” During their careers, they released three studio albums and three live albums. Some songs which they were synonymous with was their hits Come Back Home, Gotta Be You, Fire, and scream. Sadly though, Minzi separated from the group as of April of 2016, and the group disbanded 8 years later leaving millions of fans in tears with their last song, “Goodbye.”

Sadly, the cause of the disbandment was a scandal on Park Bom. It started when she was young when she watched her best friend die in fort of her eyes after a soccer which she was a part of. Traumatized from the event, Park Bom took therapy and was even prescribed amphetamines from America. Bom auditioned for YG three times before succeeding at the age of 11 refused to sing unless she was certainly supported by YG. The sad part was that no body, not even her band members didn’t know about it and YG didn’t want Bom to suffer.

2014, being the worst year for K-Pop, Bom was also affected by this. She was falsely accused of supposedly taking illegal drugs. However, they were only illegal in South Korea. YG was quoted saying, “Park Bom had, until four years ago, continuously taken medication prescribed to her by an American university hospital. Due to a busy schedule, she was unable to return to the States for some time, and in the process of having her mother and grandmother receive the medications through post for her. It turned out that the drugs, amphetamines were banned in Korea, yet legal in the States.” So for now, the scandal is covered up :), however a lot of us are still depressed from the disbandment (2NE1 2009-2017 ;-;.)

Let’s continue to support Blackjacks, Park Bom, and 2NE1! Hopefully they’ll come back home.

Weekly Post #6: New Year’s Resolution Week 1

Hi edubloggers,

Photo Credit: Rosmarie Voegtli Flickr via Compfight cc

It’s been a week since I made my resolutions for 2018, so I thought I’d track down my progress. So far I read one and one half books, which were the first two books of Percy Jackson. It’s about a kid named Percy Jackson who was the son of Poseidon, the ocean god. Percy gets into a lot of trouble and frequently switches schools and is eventually sent to camp Half Blood to seek Zeus. On the way however, he encounters many monsters and goblins.

These two books were probably one of the best books I have ever read besides the “Magnus Chase” series. I was always wondering what would happen next – some parts were filled with fear and emotion and some filled with action. My favorite part of the book was when Percy fights Ares, the god of war. I could not put this book down. Wherever I went this book came with me. Rick Riordan Is a very good author and I love reading his books.

Also here was my progress:

Monday: MLK! I was able to read at least half the book.

Tuesday: Thus a typical, busy day I was able to read for 10 minutes (3/4)

Wednesday: Finished the first book and read one fourth of the next book.

Thursday: Read 1/2 of the book!

Friday: Planning to read the rest of it!

I hope to finish the series in three or four weeks. Stay tooned!

Bye,
